Can you believe it’s already March? This winter feels like it has just flown by.
It’ll be a bit milder this weekend, although flurries are in the forecast, and there are many events happening around the region that makes it worth getting out of the house.
You can celebrate Mardi Gras at local restaurants and bars, including Rhapsody Barrel Bar in Kitchener or The Cornerstone in Guelph. There’s the K-W Comedy Festival all weekend with some standing-room only tickets still available, and if you want to take the drive to Stratford, the annual Stratford Garden Festival takes place this weekend, too.
And here are five other ideas for how you could spend your weekend:
Volume 3: Boom!
8 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, March 2
Idea Exchange, Queen’s Square, 1 North Square, Cambridge
There’s a whole lot of not-your-typical library stuff going down at this party, which is also a fundraiser for the Cambridge Art Galleries. Sound baths, an escape room, dancing, karaoke, drumming demo and exploding ice cream. There’s food. There’s drinks. There’s fun.
Kitchener Comic Con
11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, March 2
10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, March 3
Kitchener City Hall and 44 Gaukel, Kitchener
Check out the artists, vendors and cosplayers at this annual event. One big change this year is there are two locations. City hall is family-friendly while events at 44 Gaukel are geared toward adults.
Elora Spring Craft Show and Market
11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 3
Elora and District Community Centre, 29 David St. W., Elora
It might not look like spring outside, but it will feel spring-like inside with wreaths, flowers and colourful crafts.
Waterloo Moves Photography Show and Sale
1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, March 2
CIGI, 67 Erb St. W., Waterloo
This is a cool set up for a photo show and sale: Each photographer is paired with a local accompanist for a performance of sights and sounds. This year, the theme for the show is motion and movement and how photographers interpret that.
3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, March 3
Royal Electric, 52 Macdonell St., Guelph
As part of music weekends in Guelph’s downtown, Juno-nominee and Canadian Folk Music Award winner Oh Susanna will be playing along with special guest Wicked Weather. If you happen to be in the city on Saturday instead of Sunday, there’s Bollywood and Bellydance at Royal Electric as well.
