A worker has been seriously hurt at the Evraz’s steelmaking facility in Regina, the second such incident in less than a week.
An employee was hurt around 11 p.m. CST Saturday while operating a piece of equipment, said Evraz North America spokesperson Patrick Waldron in an email.
“The employee was hospitalized, and the injury has been reported to the OHS Regina branch,” Waldron wrote.
Last Wednesday a worker at Evraz’s rolling mill was seriously hurt in the area where scrap metal is melted and cast into slabs before they are rolled out. That employee remains in hospital.
The company has not released further details about what happened in either case or the nature of either person’s injuries.
“As with any lost-time injury or workplace accident, the circumstances of Saturday’s incident are being thoroughly investigated and reviewed,” wrote Waldron.
“We continue to talk to all our employees about our commitment to a safe, healthy work environment, and the importance of safe workplace practices and looking out for co-workers.”
The United Steel Workers 5890 local that represents workers at the Evraz plant said no one was available for comment.
